The wonderful neighbor Carol who lives on the next farm over from here offered us to come and see the animals and go for a horse ride. We had a great time! Here are some pics.. Sierra is now hooked on horses like her older sister Summer. She used to be VERY ALLERGIC to horses but has outgrown her allergy!! WAHOO!! Pretty exciting for us all! They were all able to pat the goats, donkeys, horses without any problems! Sierra still can’t handle inside cats but we are thrilled she can be with other animals now, will make having a farm MUCH easier!
We had an awesome day yesterday, started out to waking up with the huge black bear out grazing in the lower field, very cool to watch! They are just coming out of hibernation right now so are “greening”. We are fairly obvious where we are and the bears are well aware of us, pretty sure they will keep there distance but we picked up some bear spray just in case!
We drove through the cow field yesterday morning and saw a new baby deer walking through the field then looked over in the bush and saw a mama cow giving birth to her calf! Our timing was perfect! We stayed our distance but were able to watch Mama lick her calf off and then the calf attempt to stand and fall over and over again. She was then able to get up and get to her Mama cow to nurse less than 40 minutes after she was born. Amazing to watch! They both knew just what to do without any help.. The kids were thrilled to sit and watch the whole natural process before our eyes, a day we won’t forget!
We moved… across the pond
We were not getting hit with sun until noon where we were parked before so if the sun wasn’t good all afternoon we weren’t get a great charge off our solar panels. Even though we had marginally charging we only had to fire up our generator twice in 3 weeks! YAY!
So we spoke to the land owner and he was fine with us moving out into the field on the other side of the pond to get better sun. It is an AMAZING view from our new spot! We are LOVING every minute of being up here!! We parked so our panels are facing south and we can maximize our sun exposure, we have them tilted at about 55 degrees. So by 8am today we were already charging at 5 amps this morning.. And we didn’t have to go out into the field to be in the sun to drink coffee
and we are now parked right beside the pond so are seraneded to sleep by a chorus of frogs, much to Sierra our frog lovers delight!
The kids helped me do some gardening yesterday, we planted some tomatos, red peppers and lettuce in a box for now, it comes in at night so it doesn’t get eaten by deer and bear, speaking of we now have a huge male black bear in the lower field, pics to come soon!
